Grit and Compression, turning it on and off and flowing through it - any ideas?

I've been casual singing for ~7 years (as In never improving lmao) and I've always wondered how people make their grit sound so good? is it something that can be learned? Here's a clip of me singing one of my favorite songs with a healthy amount of grit and sweetness in the voice (leave me alone off of bad). is there anything that can be done to help me or others do this shit better 😭 apologies for the closet acoustics.
