What does it all mean?? Fatty liver, methane sibo, silent reflux in a 27 year old male
I’m really struggling to connect the dots here guys
27 year old who doesn’t drink, smoke or do drugs. Eat moderately healthy.
I have:
- methane-predominant SIBO / IMO (positive breath test)
- NAFLD (fatty liver) shown on ultrasound
- GERD/LPR symptoms (globus, occasional dysphagia, bitter/sour regurgitation, throat irritation)
I’m trying to understand a reaction I’ve noticed with magnesium supplements.
When I take magnesium taurate, I notice:
- reduced neck/throat muscle tension and slightly less “tight” globus sensation
- improved mental clarity / brain fog
BUT a persistent bitter/metallic taste in my mouth
worse breath / “refluxy” taste throughout the day
I already have:
- chronic constipation (bowel movements ~every 3 days)
- significant bloating and abdominal distension
intolerance to high-fat meals (they worsen bloating + reflux-type symptoms)
intermittent regurgitation / sour or bitter “vapour-like” reflux
- tongue coating during flare-ups
Other notes:
symptoms improve somewhat with fasting and worsen after meals
I cannot tolerate sugar alcohols or some supplements due to GI side effects
antifungals haven’t changed the tongue symptoms (so not suspected candida)
My question is:
Has anyone experienced magnesium taurate causing worsening reflux-like taste or upper GI symptoms, even while improving muscle relaxation/brain fog?
Could this be related to - motility changes, bile/acid reflux sensitivity or something else entirely?
