Increasing training load/adding gym sessions.

These past 8 weeks I have started running again.
I run three times a week and my goal is to finish my last two weeks of my 5k program and then work a bit on my speed. I have gotten used to run Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday and I feel my legs and mind crave running/movement on my off days.

I want to add a 2 or 3 sessions a week at my local gym as I feel that I currently have the time, motivation ans mental capacity to do so.
My goal at the gym would be to work out using a few basic compound movements, building my general strength.

However, I don’t want to burn out just because I am motivated right now or increase my exercise load too quickly and injure myself from over-exertion. Do any of you have advice for me on how fast (or slow!) I should add in my gym sessions?
