I removed the laminate backsplash in my kitchen. The house is 22 years old, there is glue that is left behind. It's kinda tacky and mostly smooth. Can I just thinset and set the tile on top of the glue after I do a good scrape to knock down the high spots? What would everyone recommend? I've attached pictures of the wall after removing the laminate and the new tile (8X2).

Edit. The white in the pictures is sheetrock, the other is the slightly tacky glue.

Thanks in advance for help!
