I recently set up a terrarium, but because I didn’t research enough, I accidentally mixed about 1–1.5 portions of microbial fertilizer into the akadama substrate. After that, my fittonia and fern gradually died, while the moss is still alive.
The terrarium still has springtails and dwarf white isopods, and they seem active. I’ve opened the lid for better airflow because the lower substrate layer started turning dark.
I’d like to ask:
Should I replace all of the substrate, or just wait for the system to stabilize?
How long should I wait before replanting new plants?
What beginner-friendly plants would be best to replant, and should I avoid fertilizer completely?
Are there any signs that show the terrarium is stable again?
If anyone has dealt with something similar, I’d really appreciate your advice. Thanks!
