My player has been playing an "Oath of the Common Man" Paladin for years now, and thematically this is perfect for her character but there's this level 7 feature that I've always hated as the DM and the player is now confessing to me feels OP, obligatory, and unfun.
Here's the subclass: https://imgur.com/a/kIa7n
Hats off to the creator they did a great job. Basically the feature feels broken to me because there's no cap on how many creatures you can do it with (which IS thematically appropriate, as the subclass is built to encourage strength in numbers), and it doesn't define an ally you have solidarity with clearly. For example, it was contentious when this player tried to split damage with their tanky animal summon. Can a beast with low intelligence really have 'solidarity' in the same way as you would with an intelligent teammate?
The worst part truly is that she just says it feels like she has to use this feature every single time. It adds math, makes big hits from enemies feel like splashes, and just slows down combat in general. But rather than replace this feature entirely I'd love to tweak it to be more in-line with the subclass, because she doesn't want to change subclassses.
My first instinct is to make it so that you can only split damage with one or two allies max, and to make it only with creatures of intelligence 6 or higher, but I think that's just balancing it rather than making it fun. Does anybody have ideas for an Aura feature that supplements this subclass?
Also on an unrelated note is Turn the Bourgeois way too powerful? A lot of our enemies would fall under this category lol.
