Dog drank saltwater and then threw up. What do we do?
My 10yo Maltese dog(spayed, approximately 10-12lb) visted the beach with us today for the first time in her life, she was obsessed with the water and we did our best to not let her drink any but she still got quite a bit. She vomited on the beach and drank a LOT when I gave her a bowl of water, she threw up even more after drinking. We still haven't gotten home yet, its been about and hour and a half since we left the beach.
I've been giving her a little bit of water(aprox 10 seconds of drinking) every 30 minutes. We stopped to let her pee and she had a normal pee. The only symptoms are the thirst, vomiting, and she's a bit tired(that could be from running around).
We've recently went into a bad financial situation and taking her to the vet is only for an emergency, which I'm hoping this is not.
How bad is it and what should we do? Please help
