Seattle vs Chicago

My partner (30M) and I (27M) currently live in St. Louis, Missouri, and lately we’ve been feeling increasingly dissatisfied. After a lot of discussion, we decided we’d like to move and started our research. At first, we were mostly looking at northern cities—especially Seattle—but we also considered several states in the Northeast.

Recently, we took a weekend trip to Chicago and were reminded how much we love the area. I’d love to hear from people who have relocated to northern states (especially Seattle, though any experiences are welcome) or to Chicago specifically. Beyond the obvious adjustments and cost of living, what were some unexpected challenges, culture shifts, costs, or day-to-day realities you ran into after moving? I’m especially interested in hearing LGBTQIA experiences—anything you wish you’d known beforehand!

It's not so much the Hellboy parts of the movie I like, but more the Appalachian backdrop and the way they present the magic. It isn't glittery and obvious; instead, it is eerie and tense.
