Some old tech

I was at a wholesale redistributor today picking up stuff for work and they had this ready for the scrap heap. I was able to put it in my car instead. Lots of chips, old school displays, and gold plating. Had fun taking this apart. That’s some thick gold plating on those pins and a massive heat sink was on the back.

Gateway PC

Was talking about this in another post and more pictures were wanted but I couldn’t add them in that post. So here are those pictures. I got this free and was asking about its potential value vs. scrapping.

Don’t know what I have

So I’ve been going around and collecting ewaste from other people‘s homes and stripping them down for parts and scrap. A couple of these computer towers I have look interesting and one has gained interest in another thread, so I’m reaching out here to ask if there is any value in holding these rather than stripping them down for scrap. The gateway has significant rust on the bottom of the chassis and I haven’t opened it up yet. The XPS is dirty, but seems like it could clean up pretty nice. I have not tried plugging either of them in yet.

I am a novice with electrical circuits and normally don’t mess with it at all. But I was given this home theater receiver over the weekend during a junk run and would like to see if it can be repaired.

Owner told me that a power surge hit it during a storm and it won’t power on now. I tested the fuse and it is good. I don’t see any charred areas on the boards and none of the capacitors are swollen. That is the extent of my knowledge on troubleshooting.

It is a high end receiver. Yamaha RX-A8A with a much higher resale value if functional hence my desire to fix it. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
