Do the Implications of Bill C-3 trouble you?

I’m an American and my great-grandmother was a British subject born in Ontario to American parents in the 19th century. My family applied for Proof of Citizenship, partly because becoming a duel citizen for 55 USD is a no brainer; partly because we want a backup plan in case the States completely loses it.

That being said, there are some people with ancestry claims even more ancient than my own (e.g. their Canadian ancestor was born in the mid 1700s), and it seems like there is no line in the sand with enough evidence.

Most of the discussion about the bill that I’ve seen has been American-centered. I’m curious what the Canadian perspective is. It’s your country and I’d like to think I speak for most Americans when I say we don’t want to intrude or otherwise offend anyone.

List of Researchers for United Church of Canada Archives?

Hi everyone,

My ancestor was a Presbyterian born in Kitchener, Ontario. The Kitchener local archives and the Presbyterian Church of Canada have no record of her baptism. My last lead before giving up is the United Church of Canada. The united church page makes reference to a list of researchers who can search the archives in your behalf, but I can’t find it anywhere.

Does anyone have this list? If so can you please send along to me? Thanks!

My great grandfather was born in Michigan in 1876. His older sister and his younger brother’s birth records are in family search, but his is not. I am planning to request his birth certificate from Michigan to see if it exists. However, the family used two spellings of their surname prior to settling on one around WW1, and I have no idea which variation the registrar might have used when recording his birth (if it exists).

Given how expensive vitalchek is, I am apprehensive about just picking a spelling and going with that. Do y’all have any advice on how to proceed?

For reference, the older sister (1 year older) and younger brother (1 year younger) have different spellings of their surname on their birth records lol.

Hi everyone,

My G0 was born in Berlin, Waterloo County, Ontario in 1849. I have 2 Canadian census records, an obituary, and a book on Waterloo County that state the same.

I. Cannot. Find. Her. Baptism. Anywhere.

I spent an absurd amount of time reviewing digitized resources and I paid someone to review the collection available at the Kitchener library. No luck :(.

I found that she was a free Presbyterian, so I put a request into the Presbyterian church of Canada two months ago. They still haven’t sent me anything since the acknowledgment.

I’ve pretty much given up and already sent in our application. If anyone has any other leads I would love to hear them.
