so i was talking to a fellow at work and we spoke a bit about consoles. its funny we began about the nintendo 64, and i explained to him how i felt Nintendo really sucked for me in that time period because while at first i LOVED the n64 grafx, i soon discovered that its vaseline blurry textures, and UGLY polygon geometry with gradient color just didnt age well, On top of that it has literally no ability to do 2d, it in fact faked 2d, and it just didn't look good.

We seg-wayed into the neogeo. (yes i was the one who brought it up lol)...which lets face it, to THIS DAY, still looks great.
He said it was obsolete, and dated tech, and the imagery of that retro grafx is just nostalgia.

I disagree

I explained that i feel grafix styling from a previous generation or two is actually more akin to a style of music, it doesn't become "obsolete".

the techniques and art of drawing images pixel by pixel is a signature look, much like a signature sound. There are people still making music, that sounds like it is right out of the 1980s, rock, synth wave etc etc, its not obsolete, its a style it never truly "died" it just lost the level of popularity it once had.

I buy modern games with the artistic approach of pixel art, not out of nostalgia, but out of the creativity, and overall presentation/simplicity it offers.
Having said that, i feel the technology in the neogeo is not truly obsolete by definition.

I am thrilled the NG is getting another run, i hope to see new games, games the original library lacked. I want the momentum to never end.

just my rambling for the morning

So what do you think, obsolete?, or an actual style that can survive in any generation of gaming not based on nostalgia, but based on art.
