My husband will be in the hospital for 8-10 days following a difficult surgery. He wants books! He usually reads books I consider challenging, but wants to read more fiction. He likes John le Carre, Anthony Doerr, Roberto Bolano, Percival Everett for fiction. His favorite non-fiction author is Doris Kearns Goodwin. He just finished Wide Wide Sea by Hampton Sides and loved it. I know these are all very different from each other! Thanks for any ideas!

Edit to add, he likes biographies but I think something lighter will be needed.
