Is this normal during a pap test/smear?

So I just gotten my first ever pap recently but I have a few concerns, during the pap the woman didn’t use lubrication and when I was in school all the girls in class learned about paps and how they are performed, not only did the woman not use lubrication, she gently placed the speculum on my thigh and held it there for a few seconds and then inserted it just like that, because it was my first pap I went completely numb down below and didn’t feel a thing, but afterwards the thought of another one doesn’t scare me at all, since I know how it goes. But I don’t know, some of the things the woman did it didn’t feel right to me at all, but I never spoke up or said anything because I figured that they are a professional so they know what they are doing, but when I look back on it I think something wasn’t right during the test.
And for anyone who’s curious and will ask, I’m Canadian and so the practices here might be different from where anyone else is, but either way I’d like to hear everyone‘s responses and opinions. The woman doing the pap said I’ll have a follow up and I’m due in a few days for it, so I wanna be prepared for the second one. Thank you!
