As someone who has owned both guitar synths. I can safely say the VG-8 is the most overrated and overpriced piece of guitar gear going. It has some cool sounds and effects but not only are they not unique to the vg8, they limit you to creating only a certain type of music imo. The Gr-30 goes for less than 30% of the current price of a vg-8 and can emulate more sounds and instruments, gives you more control over each sound bank and is just generally a more practical piece of gear if you wanna make all types of music with a guitar. The only 2 benefits I’d say the vg8 has is it is the exact piece of gear mk.gee uses and its tracking works better for dynamic playing.
