Hi there, my 8 year old cockatiel was taken into an avian specialist today for a distended crop and some stool abnormalities. They did pretty extensive testing including a gram stain, and X-rays. We held off on blood panels after her X-rays due to her stress levels, and to an apparent mass in near her cloaca. Our vet suspects that she has egg yolk peritonitis. She was prescribed pain meds, anti inflammatories, and antibiotics. We are waiting to see how the process goes for the next few weeks to establish a plan, but overall, it sounds like this has been going on for longer than we thought and her prognosis is generally not great. I’m really frustrated that I wasn’t able to catch this sooner, and wish she didn’t have to go through this. She’s my best friend, truly, and I’m so afraid of losing her to this, though I know it’s highly likely.
I’m honestly just hoping to hear what other experiences people may have had with this issue and what the outcome has been, whether it be good or bad. I’m bracing for the worst, hoping for the best. Here’s a picture of her, for tax.
