Long-time lurker for inspiration, would appreciate everyone's feedback on a redesign of our upstairs of a circa 1980 raised bungalow (1650 ft upstairs, 1650 downstairs = 3300 ft total) with currently 7 bed, 2 bath configuration (3 bed/1 bath upstairs, 4 bed/1 bath downstairs) and two entrances/two kitchens. In this post I want to address the upstairs redesign. I've used the Mitton and Nystuen 2007 book "Residential interior design" for most ideas/concepts so far.

Main goals:
- Add a full bathroom.
- Make the laundry room move efficient (feels like a waste of space; currently not set up as a pantry).
- Kitchen is original so needs replacing. Been toying with knocking out the load-bearing wall currently separating kitchen from living room (but I appreciate concerns re. full open plan).
- Connect kitchen with outdoors via French doors and a deck (west facing; bottom of image).
- Clearer separation between upstairs/downstairs via a door in the north hallway (downstairs is intended as separate suite for multi-generational living)

Below is the status quo and latest draft of design. What I don't like is the very linear kitchen (work triangle is non-existent) and the laundry room/pantry room seems a bit awkward. Orientation-wise the right-hand side of the plan is facing south. Extending/expanding outwards is not an option. Want to make revisions before talking to contractors. Appreciate your help!
