Almost trapped in an organized scam by a 'proposal planning' service in Gurgaon — sharing so others stay safe
I want to share what happened to me and my fiancée this week so no one else falls into the same trap.
WHAT HAPPENED:
I had been planning to propose to my fiancée and was looking for a romantic proposal setup. I came across a service called "Just Proposals" through their website (http://justproposals.co/) and Instagram (@justproposals). Their website looks professional — they advertise packages like "Heart of Lights Proposal," "Above the Clouds," candlelight dinners, etc., with prices ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹70,000.
I paid ₹8,000 in advance for one of their packages.
On the day of the event, things went horribly wrong.
- They directed us to a location that turned out to be a remote, shady area
- Once we arrived, multiple cars surrounded us with several men positioned around
- They followed our vehicle and blocked normal exit routes
- To intimidate us, they took out a dog from one of the cars and killed it in front of us — a deliberate, sickening tactic to terrorize us into compliance
- We genuinely feared for our lives and believed they were planning to rob, kidnap, or worse
- By God's grace and the quick thinking of our driver, we managed to escape from the area
- We're both physically safe, but deeply shaken
This was NOT a bad vendor experience. This was a coordinated criminal operation disguised as a proposal planning business. They have a working website, an Instagram presence, and a payment system — all designed to lure unsuspecting couples (especially during engagement/wedding season) into vulnerable situations.
WHAT I'M DOING NOW:
- Sharing this publicly so others can stay safe
WHAT I'M ASKING FROM THE COMMUNITY:
- Please report their Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/justproposals/ for fraud and harmful activity. Use the "Report → Scam or Fraud" option on Instagram. The more reports, the faster Instagram will take it down.
- Please report their website http://justproposals.co/ on:- Google Safe Browsing https://safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/- cybercrime.gov.in- Domain hosting provider (if anyone can identify it)
- Share this post so it reaches anyone planning a proposal in India. Engagement/wedding season is their hunting season.
- If anyone has had a similar experience with this company or knows others who have, please comment so we can build a collective complaint.
RED FLAGS I MISSED (so others can spot them):
- Vague about exact location until the day of
- Insisted to share my live location when I leave
- Insisted to first ask me to come alone and then my fiancee comes later
- Pressured timing with phrases like "limited slots"
- Sketchy professional photos on their website (looked stock/AI-generated in retrospect)
- No verifiable physical office address
- No Google reviews or only suspicious 5-star reviews
If you're planning a proposal:
✅ Use only well-known, verifiable services with physical offices and Google reviews
✅ Always tell multiple people the exact location and time
✅ Share live location with trusted family/friends
✅ Have your own backup transport
✅ Trust your gut — if anything feels off, leave immediately
I'm grateful my fiancée and I are safe. We'll plan our actual proposal at home with family, in a safe space — which honestly feels more meaningful now anyway.
Please don't let this happen to anyone else.
Stay safe, everyone.
