Aviva, are you trying to outdo Elise? "I'm cold!"

This is a scene from the Tell All next week. What was she thinking here? Did anyone notice or tell her about the exposure, it's a bit much even for 90 day. Elise and Aviva in competition to show the most skin? Another millimeter and...

So I managed to get my hands on a used (loaner) CCH from a local dealer, with only about 14K miles on the clock, for about $26K. Been driving it a couple of weeks now and my first impressions:

So far mileage is great, although it's all over the place from as much as 60MPG to as low as 24MPG, depending on which way I'm driving - downhill or uphill toward my home. This I think is normal. I will see what it averages out to over time. Meanwhile it's nice to fill back up knowing I'm using less gas than I have in any other car I've ever owned.

I love the ride feel, coming from a Honda HR-V, this car is far quieter and smoother by far. My Honda was so noisy on the freeway, I had to turn the radio up louder to hear.

My complaints so far:

The rear seat headrests are so high and they block a significant portion of the view in the rearview mirror. Visibility is quite poor out the back due to this. The HR-V had rear headrests that collapse down so low that they're nearly the same height as the top of the seat itself, allowing full view out the back. This is an oversight IMO when the vehicle was designed. At this point, I've completely removed the headrests from the rear seats (we don't have anyone riding in the back 99% of the time, if we do, we can put them back temporarily).

No spare tire, of course, is a main complaint of most owners, but at least this is solvable if somewhat costly, to purchase a spare and modify the spare wheel well and cover to fit one. I haven't decided yet whether or not to do this, but I'm leaning toward doing it as I've never owned a car without one, and it makes me kind of nervous not having it.

There's a real lack of storage cubbys/space in this car. The very small storage unit between the seats is not enough for us, but we'll try to make do with it. I've never seen a modern car with this little storage space for things.

One real irritant for me, although most people would probably not notice or care - the infotainment is years behind in some respects. In my Honda (2016) I could plug in two different flash drives in the front and read MP3 files from either one (switchable right on the head unit). The Cross has no such capability. Only one data port and that's in the front. I tried to bypass this by buying a USB A/B switch (2 USB inputs, 1 USB output) but for some unknown reason, the head unit won't recognize the switch. The switch works perfectly fine when I test it on my home PC, I can switch between USB 1 or USB 2, so there's nothing wrong with the switch at all. But when it's plugged into the front data port of the Cross, nothing happens. It's like it's not plugged in at all. This when I use the exact same wires and USB drives. Very strange.

If I plug a single flash drive directly into the data port, it works instantly. The head unit just doesn't see a USB switch. I'm still researching this and hope to find a solution.

I also noted that the head unit doesn't read MP3 IDv3 tags properly, which the much older Honda had no issues with. The unit reads the song title from the file name (for example, it reads the title from an MP3 file like this: letitbe.mp3) instead of the MP3 tag and even if you have it correct in the tag as Let It Be, it will show letitbe on the screen. It reads the album name from the folder name instead of the MP3 tag, and oddly enough, it does get the artist name from the MP3 tag! I don't know what the programmers were thinking when they set this up, but it's infuriating as I listen to MP3 files all the time in my car and now I have to go through hundreds of songs I had set up perfectly with tags and rename all of them so they are displayed properly on my head unit. Yes, maybe I'm OCD with it but the fact remains, Honda did it right 10 years ago, why can't Toyota? Would it have cost them anything to program the unit properly?

I'm sure I'll find other things that I like and dislike about the car as time goes on, but these things are what I have noticed almost immediately.
