Just wanted to share these duties charged on a recent order from Buyee.jp with other users of the site. I'm a long time shopper with Buyee and have had a great experience with the company over the years. Recently, they made a change to the way they handle tariffs from applying a flat 15.5% fee to by category tariffs. I reached out to customer service to get clarification about these fees because I couldn't understand why a short sleeve cotton shirt has a 46% tariff, a long sleeve cotton shirt is 30% and a Cotton Jacket is 22% etc. Buyee customer service wouldn't offer clarification as to what the specific rates per categories are and said that duty rate is determined based on the timing of the shipment payment.
I just wanted to share what some of these fees look like with other shoppers because its such a dramatic increase from the previous tariff rates. I hope that this post can save some shoppers from surprises especially for those making large orders. Understandably, tariffs are likely posing some difficulty for Buyee's business which has resulted in this change. At the same time, I think shoppers should know that the rates are this high through Buyee and can choose a competitive proxy service accordingly.
If anyone has information about how Buyee's tariffs are being calculated please share. I have also paid tariffs directly through shipping services and never experienced rates this high, however, I understand that this is an evolving situation.
