So I wish I had more to go on about this book like a year or anything but no such luck. All I know is I read it in school around 2011 ish? It was about an alien girl who looks human crash landing on earth and being taken in by a boy and his family I think? I remember the boys mom being a chemist or scientist of some kind trying to develop a way to break down plastic and combat pollution. I remember she succeeded maybe with alien help and accidentally causes her workplace building to collapse.
