Sharing a chart I made to help demystify amp power, volume, and speaker efficiency. I was at a small venue in Baltimore last week and opened the dB meter app on my phone. The volume where I was, towards the back of the venue, maybe 10 meters away, was 94 dB. Which was still really loud (I wear earplugs at every show I go to).
The following shows the relationship between watts, dBs, and speaker efficiency. Efficiency is the sound pressure level when feeding a speaker with 1 watt of power, measured 1 meter from the speaker. The middle column is your standard Celestion efficiency rating. The right is a high-efficiency Eminence.
