So I live upstairs in a 5 unit, older, hardwood floor, non sound proof/insulated building. Right? Right. The floors creak with every move, even on the balls of feet. Purchased area rugs for each room. I have OCD/CPTSD, the kind where you don’t like to disturb people by any means. I am constantly considering noise levels, especially during night/early mornings. Single, no partner, pets, or children. Like I barely even watch TV/play music or have company. If I do, always at respectable times and noise levels.
Well, I have a new downstairs neighbor as of this past April. He started off strong, first couple nights had company and they were literally so loud my floors were shaking. Laughing, rough housing, stomping. On a normal day, he constantly stomps around the house, slams doors, AND smokes cigarettes. I called my office after a couple weeks of patience just to put it on their radar, also have video evidence just in case.
Since that call, it seems like he’s either retaliating or equally getting frustrated with the creaking/lived noise I (seldom) omit. Stomping is louder/seems more intentional. Slamming doors between 11p-2a during work week, waking me out of my sleep. I’ve been trying my hardest not to stomp/bang back because that can be a slippery slope. I think I found a new place to move into, but that’s not for at least another month or so. I’m losing sleep, patience, and it’s starting to negatively affect me.
So for the mean time, do I write a letter to him? If so, what should it say? I don’t want to call the police for noise complaint just yet, but I will if I have too.. also don’t want to do a face to face because I’m not the best with confrontation and I don’t want to loose my cool or come off threatening.
HELP!!!!
