House built in 1977, attached 2 car garage with walk up loft space. To me, this seems a ridiculously dumb question: Do I need to worry about the center post (on the garage floor to the ceiling)?

I store quite a bit in the loft, and while my husband says “don’t put that up there”, he is adamant the post is fine. I’m doubtful. It is filled with concrete, and of course the metal is rusting from dampness and salt from the roads.

Also, what trades person should I be looking for please?
