🧛 The “Vampire” in the Grass: Why Ticks Are Becoming a Massive Health & Economic Problem

Interesting deep dive into:

  • Lyme disease
  • Alpha-gal syndrome
  • Powassan virus
  • the billion-dollar economic cost of tick-borne illnesses
  • why ticks are way more dangerous than most people realize

Also covers:

  • weird tick facts
  • prevention strategies
  • why Lone Star ticks can literally make people allergic to burgers
  • how fast treatment matters

Honestly one of the strangest intersections of biology, finance, outdoor living, and horror-comedy I’ve read in a while.

HubSpot (HUBS): Down Nearly 80% From Highs, But Insiders Are Buying — GARP Setup or AI Trap?

Interesting breakdown of HubSpot after its post-earnings selloff.

The article covers:

  • CEO, founder-CTO, and director insider buying
  • Q1 revenue growth of 23%
  • expanding margins and GAAP profitability
  • Breeze AI / agentic CRM strategy
  • institutions owning roughly 100% of float
  • valuation reset, including forward P/E and PEG discussion
  • whether AI makes HubSpot more valuable or commoditizes CRM

The bull case is that HUBS has shifted from “growth at any price” to a real GARP setup.

The bear case is longer sales cycles, competition, and AI monetization uncertainty.

A chemist wrote one of the most beautiful operas ever created: Borodin’s Prince Igor

If you’ve never heard the “Polovtsian Dances” from Prince Igor, do yourself a favor.

Alexander Borodin wasn’t even a full-time composer:

  • he was a chemistry professor
  • co-discovered the aldol reaction
  • helped pioneer women’s education in Russia

…and somehow also wrote one of the most emotionally overwhelming works in classical music.

Even crazier:

  • the opera remained unfinished
  • the overture was reconstructed from memory by Glazunov
  • parts inspired the Broadway hit “Stranger in Paradise”

This story genuinely feels fictional.

⚖️ LegalZoom (LZ): The “Lawsuit-Proof” Balance Sheet?

🐂⚖️ LegalZoom (LZ) may be one of the weirdest “value + squeeze + AI” setups in the market right now.

✅ CEO just bought shares
✅ No debt
✅ Strong free cash flow
✅ 107% institutional ownership
✅ Elevated short interest
✅ Trading ~70% below ATH

The market fears AI kills LegalZoom.

Bulls believe AI could massively improve margins instead.

The courtroom drama is officially underway. 🚀

Hantavirus Is Far Deadlier Than COVID — So Why Isn’t It the Next Pandemic?

Interesting deep dive on the 2026 Hantavirus cruise ship outbreak and why experts say pandemic risk remains extremely low despite mortality rates approaching 50% in severe cases.

The article also covers:

  • rodent-based transmission
  • why Andes virus is unique
  • Moderna’s mRNA vaccine program
  • whether MRNA stock still has long-term upside

Honestly one of the better “biology + markets + public health” explainers I’ve read recently.

Upstart (UPST): Founder buys ~$5M, short interest is huge, AI lending growth is strong — but risks are real

Upstart is one of the more interesting high-risk fintech setups right now.

Bullish points:

  • Founder Dave Girouard bought nearly $5M of stock
  • Short interest is extremely high
  • Revenue and originations are still growing fast
  • AI underwriting remains the core differentiator
  • Bank-charter application could be a major strategic catalyst

Bearish points:

  • Cash flow deteriorated sharply
  • Lending is macro/rate sensitive
  • Balance-sheet loan exposure remains a risk
  • Regulatory scrutiny around AI lending is not trivial
  • UPST volatility is brutal

My take: this is not a safe stock, but it is a very interesting speculative setup. It’s AI + fintech + short squeeze potential + turnaround risk all in one ticker.

PSUS IPO Drops 18%—Are Investors Paying for Ackman’s Skill or Just His Portfolio?

Pershing Square USA raised $5B but dropped 18% on debut.

Key points:

  • Portfolio largely replicable
  • Fees still meaningful
  • Real alpha likely comes from hedging, activism, and timing

So is this:
👉 A discounted entry into elite investing?
👉 Or just a branded ETF with fees?

Curious what others think.

New Study Suggests the Unconscious Brain Can Still Learn and Predict Language Under Anesthesia

A new Nature study found that parts of the brain remain active under deep anesthesia.

Researchers observed:

  • language processing
  • pattern recognition
  • predictive word activity
  • ongoing neuroplastic adaptation

Patients had no conscious memory afterward, but their brains still appeared to process the auditory information.

One of the most interesting implications:

Consciousness and cognition may not be the same thing.

The brain may continue operating “behind the scenes” even when awareness seems fully offline.

General Atlantic Just Bought Another $34M of ALKT — Is Alkami Becoming a Fintech Infrastructure Sleeper?

Alkami Technology ($ALKT) is one of those fintech names that most retail investors barely follow, but the setup is getting interesting:

  • 29% YoY revenue growth
  • 96% recurring subscription revenue
  • 23M registered users
  • $100M buyback announced
  • Short interest near 14%
  • General Atlantic aggressively buying shares in the open market

The company powers digital banking infrastructure for regional banks and credit unions — basically the “picks and shovels” layer behind smaller institutions trying to modernize.

Still not GAAP profitable, so definitely not risk-free. But the institutional positioning + insider buying activity is fascinating.

I wrote a deep/fun breakdown here.

What do people here think about ALKT’s long-term setup?

Patrick Industries (PATK): Insider Buying + RV Rebound Setup, But Would You Wait for a Better Entry?

Patrick Industries (PATK) caught my attention because of recent insider buying.

CEO Andy Nemeth bought roughly $880K worth of shares, and several other insiders bought as well. The stock is still meaningfully below its recent highs, institutional ownership is extremely high, and short interest is not massive but large enough to add some volatility.

The bull case:

  • Strong insider buying
  • RV weakness may be cyclical, not permanent
  • Marine and powersports are growing
  • Reasonable valuation
  • Buybacks and dividends
  • Potential rebound if discretionary demand improves

The bear case:

  • RV and marine are cyclical
  • Growth is solid but not explosive
  • Leverage is worth watching
  • Macro weakness could make it cheaper
  • Valuation is reasonable, not “no-brainer cheap”

My take: interesting starter-position candidate, but I’d prefer buying lower or averaging in carefully.

Is speaking slower always better? Turns out… not really.

Most public speaking advice says to slow down.

But I came across research suggesting top salespeople often speak faster—and more concisely.

Makes sense:

  • Slow = clarity + trust
  • Fast = energy + persuasion

Feels like the real skill is controlling pace depending on context.

Curious what people here think—do you consciously adjust your speaking speed?

WTW: CEO buying + 97% institutional ownership… boring value or quiet opportunity?

Been digging into Willis Towers Watson (WTW) and it’s one of those “looks boring but might be interesting” setups.

What stands out:

  • CEO bought ~$500K after the dip
  • ~97% of float held by institutions
  • Forward P/E ~13.5x
  • Strong margin expansion despite weak sentiment

Market seems focused on slower organic growth (~3%), but ignoring earnings + efficiency improvements.

Feels like:
👉 Not a growth play
👉 More of a “quiet compounder / rebound” setup

Curious if anyone here follows WTW or the insurance/advisory space?

Full breakdown here.
