I’ve been running a GMC Sierra 1500 as my overlanding rig for the past couple seasons. At this point it’s basically a dedicated setup: I only use it for trips with my son, and it stays fully packed and ready.
Last year I picked up a Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro as my daily, and the more I drive it, the more I find myself wondering if I should move my gear over.
The Sequoia would obviously be more comfortable and arguably more capable overall. That said, I haven’t really run into situations where the Sierra’s clearance or size has been a limitation.
The tradeoff is losing the dedicated rig. Right now the Sierra is always loaded and ready to go. If I move everything to the Sequoia, I’d likely be in a constant cycle of loading/unloading depending on whether it’s a family trip, daily use, or an overlanding trip.
Curious how others have approached this? Did you stick with a dedicated rig, or consolidate into a single vehicle?
