Troubleshooting possible 4r44e transmission issues
Hello, my wife bought a 2003 Ford ranger XLT Single Cab with the 3.0L V6 and a 4r44e transmission. A while back it suddenly stopped delivering power to the wheels when we entered reverse and would not deliver power in drive. It delivers power completely normal when in 2nd gear mode like nothing is wrong.
We ended up fixing this issue by doing a transmission fluid swap, new gasket, new filter, and new solenoids. I don't think the magnet in the pan was particularly dirty considering the age and mileage (220k) but I didn't take a picture. The TCC solenoid that was in the kit did not fit so I'm wondering if the issue is related to this as I rolled with the old one.
After doing our work, the truck drove like brand new for a few weeks. Suddenly the issue came back and left my wife stranded 45min from home. I put a bottle of stop slip in the transmission which let it run fine on the way home. Right now it's barely delivering power when in reverse, Drive is not delivering power. 2 is still delivering power as normal.
Please help me figure this out as both my wife and I need cars to get to work. I have given her my car for now so she can get to work more reliably while I limp her truck into my job near our apartment.
