2026

Follow up on my GI visit today with the Gastroenterologist - he has over 20 years experience with pancreatitis (what he informed me when i asked)

I asked a million questions and he answered them over a span of about 30m. He was very nice and elaborated, was not at all annoyed, and even said i could always Telehealth with him if i needed to clarify anything else in the future regarding the AP.

Im a 31M, active/workout frequently/ have high LDL cholesterol history

First time diagnosis of acute alcohol induced pancreatitis on 04/21 after a trip to an all inclusive in mexico. Ate a ton of food and dessert along with mostly tequila and beer. As far as drinking goes nothing excessively to the point where i was drunk. For the most part drinks were spaced out where i would feel a buzz, come down from the buzz, and have a few more later. Was in bed daily by 10/11pm the latest. (No club/ late night bar activity)

Stopped drinking on 04/18 on the day we flew back home from vacation and attack occurred on 04/21. No warning signs prior to 04/21.

In a nutshell GI DR. stated that this is not permanent and believes it was from the alcohol even though i had high triglycerides and high LDL along with poor eating while on vacation. Denied a CT/MRI to check for pancreas damage and stated that we could revisit that in a few months due to it only being a week from the initial pancreatitis attack. Denied genome test stated its alcohol induced due to the factors brought forth.

GI Dr states my pancreas should be better in 3 months due to labs, lack of pain a week after initial AP attack , the fact that i ate a skirt steak burrito with no issues the fay i was discharged from the hospital ( 04/23 - nurse said i could return to normal diet and i didnt know any better- now i know its low fat diet).

GI Dr ordered 3 months low fat diet and after slowly reintroduce other foods to see how the pancreas reacts. No alcohol for 3 months minimum

Alcohol: GI DR stated that alcohol abstinence is the best but understands that we are living life. Stated that after 3 months, if i wanted to, could drink alcohol BUT at most could only have 1 to 2 alcoholic drinks MAX and not frequently and to reserve for very special occasions.

No followups needed unless any further complications or if i want to follow up with CT to check for any damage to pancreas in a few months

Overall I’m taking it slow and just wanted to share my story with you all.
