This may be a controversial opinion but I think that Lorelai would have been way happier if she had never rekindled her relationship with her parents.

Never in the 7 seasons as far as I recall have I seen Lorelai happy to see her parents at Friday night dinners and there isn't a single episode where Emily hasn't demeaned or disrespected Lorelai. In the whole series, sure they have made some progress in their relationship (Lorelai and her parents) but they still can't get over the fact that Lorelai got pregnant and left them which is their fault for bad parenting i think and it feels like they think that Lorelai just got pregnant just to spite them (which ik isn't probably true but it really feels like it). I think that they always have and always will put their elitist values and how others view them over their own daughters happiness as evident by Emily breaking up Lorelai and Luke for Christopher who fits into their world better due to his 'good breeding' (ew)

I genuinely believe that Emily and Richard love Lorelai but they are too emotionally stunted and stuck in their ways to able to form a healthy relationship with her and they always find a way to bring her down.
