"This is the place, then?" Vivienne surveyed the area, Yuzaki and the man following behind.
"Indeed. This was where I woke up, roughly 3 days ago."
The place in question was a shore near the edge of a town. Vivienne scanned the surroundings, her sharp eyes darting around the area.
The man walked closer to where the water met the sand. "This spot was the exact spot I woke up on. Zero memory of anything that happened prior, including the events that led to this... predicament," he explained.
Vivienne crouches down quietly. She continues to analyze, looking for hidden objects she may have missed.
"Aha! I found something!" She digs out what looks to be a journal of some kind. Perhaps a log book.
"What? How did I miss that? I was certain I found everything in my vicinity..." The man ponders for a moment. Could it have been buried under the sand when he gained consciousness? That was the most logical event that could have happened. But was he really that careless not to check for anything buried around him? Nevertheless... a clue is a clue, and he should not dwell on such trivial matters.
However, the man is instantly snapped out of his thoughts by the commotion happening in front of him.
"Mademoiselle, get down!"
As he looks up, he sees Yuzaki grab Vivienne to safety—away from a large, horrifying entity.
"What?! A caustic creature?!? Where did it even come from?!"
The man looks horrified. "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING?!"
Vivienne looks to him as she brushes herself off. "Oh, it's a creature mutated due to large amounts of concentrated caustic energ—"
"We don't have time for explanations right now!" Yuzaki interjected. "If we don't get to safety, we might—ah!"
The creature, which resembled a large crab, started charging at them, snapping its claws. Thankfully, they manage to dodge in time.
The man looks up, thinking fast. He has to do something! They can't keep dodging forever, nor can they outrun this monster.
He looks at Vivienne and Yuzaki, and a sudden urge of protectiveness washes over him. He may not remember a lot... but he knows he has to be the one to protect those younger and weaker than himself. Even if that was a foolish choice.
"You two... go. I'll try and hold this crab back off."
"Wha—? Are you crazy?! Get down, you idiot! You're not some kind of stupid hero!"
He simply brushes Vivienne's comment aside, and faces the crab. And then... his hands begin to glow.
