For the first time in forever, the stars have aligned and our extended family can take our kids so we can do a little solo escape. It will be in July and our window is short (Fri to Mon), so we’d like to go somewhere that is at most 3-4hrs nonstop from SFO.
Here’s our list:
- Luxe hard product with modern aesthetic, no dated or worn rooms/bathrooms. I hate a sad whirlpool.
- Beach location (-1 if not swimmable but not a dealbreaker).
- Large adult pool with no 6am pool chair stress.
- Really good food (we hate overpaying for mediocre offerings; delicious food keeps the husband happy).
- Relaxing and relatively sleepy; no ooontz-ooontz at the pool or party ambiance. We’re early 40s and we are TIRED. 🥱
My preliminary search points to Cabo. We’ve never been but despite our research we can’t seem to be in love with any property…yet.
- The Montage looks great but we understand there is construction surrounding it and snorkeling tours anchoring right on the crowded beach from 10am-2pm.
- Zadún doesn’t get great reviews here so, despite the aesthetics and a great experience at the Reserve Dorado Beach, we’re worried.
- LV looks a bit too “classic” and the rooms/bathrooms appear dated to us.
- We’re most excited about FS Cabo Del Sol. Rooms look great and I am excited about the spa, but we usually do FS with the kids and are wondering if this will be a crowded family summer spot.
My husband threw in Naviva, which is a longer flight and a very different experience, but I’m open to it. I’m a bit intimidated by the “we will cook whatever you want” concept and all of the wellness offerings sound to me like a busy weekend instead of a relaxing one. On the other hand, since we love to travel with our kids so much, it might be a few years before we get another chance try it. One more consideration is the humid heat of Nayarit compared to the dry heat in Cabo.
Over the past couple years we’ve stayed at the following tropics/beach properties and thoroughly enjoyed (to give you a sense of what we’re aiming for):
- FS Punta Mita
- FS Bora Bora
- St Regis Bora Bora
- Nayara Springs (Costa Rica)
- FS Hualalai
- FS Lanai
- RC Reserve Dorado Beach
We know it’s a crowd favorite but we personally didn’t love FS Maui when we went. We do love FS Orlando.
Are there any other Cabo properties we should look into? Any other destinations? Is the FS Cabo del Sol the safest bet there right now?
