Of course, we have Rouvy's official statements here on Reddit, Stava, and elsewhere. I can't contradict them and I'm sure their employees and fanboys are being honest and sincere.

But, as in all mergers and acquisitions of this type, the future rarely matches what is publicly announced on day 0.

Here's what I think:

  1. For a few months everything will be the same for Rouvy users, but eventually in the longer-term things will change.
  2. Zwift is aware of criticism that its app is too gamified and fake. Many of its users are bored with riding the same courses over and over again. And it's too expensive and time-consuming for Zwift to add lots of routes.
  3. Therefore, they purchased Rouvy to get its thousands (?) of real-world videos, and for no other substantive reason. Zwift corporate is already full of smart people, as is Rouvy, and they don't need more. It will be unnecessary to support two apps and two development teams. This is the major reason why acquisitions take place: overhead cost reduction.
  4. It will be a simple matter to connect Rouvy's routes to Zwift's existing app engine and overlay avatars. I would be VERY surprised if Zwift doesn't already have this working in their labs for videos of many types and formats.

So, existing Rouvy users will one day be informed that you can still ride the beautiful Rouvy routes filmed by passionate users, but you must login to Zwift and find them there.
