I know this might sound like I’m just another Sam Levinson hater who can’t accept change, but that’s not my point. I am actually very accepting of things and I think the aesthetic contrast is interesting—it captures the dreamy intensity of being 17/18 versus the reality you face at 23. (Even if we know this was prob not intentional, just a result of him stealing Petra Collins work in S1)
But as much as I dislike Sam, I have been so obsessed with S1 for so many years. I can’t fully explain it, but everything was so different from any show we had ever seen. The soundtrack and cinematography obviously, but we had never had a TV show featuring so much diverse before in such a natural way. Every character was built in a way where their current reality is expected considering their upbringing and traumas.
Even if I think S2 and S3 are honestly very fun, it is just another tv show for me. It doesn’t make me feel anything. Funnily enough, Euphoria became a hit with season 2, specifically because of the Maddy and Cassie fight. To me, they made such a unique show for it to end up as being mainly remembered by a mainstream relatable plot about two cheerleader straight girls fighting for the school’s jock. Lol.
