Person A, B, or C for LoR?
Hi folks! I plan on applying to a master’s program in Canada. Not interested in a PhD or in American universities at all.
I’m curious about how much admissions committees care about the credentials of LoR writers versus the actual content of the letters. I need two letters and have already found a solid professor for one, so I just need one more.
Person A - Department Chair. Teaching for ~10 years, and despite being the only faculty member without a PhD, was promoted to chair last year due to superb leadership. Only knows me through my involvement with the departmental student association. I’m hesitant because they may write a generic letter.
Person B - Contract Instructor. Works a day job. Been teaching a second-year course on evenings for ~5 years. I got an A in their class last year, and this year I am a teaching assistant for the same class. I’m hesitant because they are slightly disorganized.
Person C - Contract Instructor. Works a day job. Been teaching a first-year course for 1 year. I got an A+ in their class, and developed a good student-teacher relationship with them. They already agreed to write me a LoR in the future if needed. This person would likely be able to write the most personable letter.
Thanks for any advice!
