Hi everyone! I got my labs back and I’m a bit confused and wanted to go into my doctor’s appointment prepared (I see her on Thursday).
My A1C came back at 5.9% (so technically prediabetes) but i also have confirmed iron deficiency anemia:
Ferritin: 16
Iron Sat: 9%
Low MCV/MCH+ Hgb 11.5
my fasting glucose was 82.
I’ve read that iron deficiency can falsely elevate A1C. Is that true in your experience? Has anyone had it go down after treating iron deficiency?
Also would it be reasonable to ask for another test before being diagnosed prediabetic?
It wouldn’t be crazy both my parents are diabetic. I don’t eat particularly well, less so when i’m stressed. I’m overweight and I could definitely be more active. I just wonder if this is something I need to advocate for. I want to go into with a plan and not sound stupid lol.
