Just had to explain to a French tourist that the entrance to state library station was also the entrance to Melbourne central station and that despite different names, all 6 platforms are within the same paid area. (he eventually understood)
I understand town hall is different to flinders as one is above and one is below ground but state library/ melb central just doesnt make sense and furthermore its just not really global practice to do this.
Apparently the reason was to help emergency services differentiate the two but if london, new york, paris can have stations with 10+ underground platforms and not have an issue then it really shouldn't be that hard.
