Am I too picky, or is this just a gut feeling I should trust? Need some perspective
So I just wrapped up a pretty disappointing internship at a “prestigious” company — you know the type, great on paper, terrible in reality. The work culture was nothing like what they sold during recruitment, and the whole experience left me kind of jaded.
Now my school is requiring me to do another internship (yay 🙃), and I’m already dreading it. I applied to one company through my school’s partnership program, and the person in charge gave me a rundown of the job responsibilities… and honestly? It sounds awful to me. Oh, and I heard through the grapevine that interns are expected to film dance videos for the company’s promotional content. I’m genuinely horrified.
Here’s the thing — I’m in no position to be choosy right now. My skills aren’t exactly at the “I can afford to turn things down” level yet, and every other application I’ve sent out recently has gone completely silent. I’m also in the middle of studying for grad school entrance exams, so I don’t have the bandwidth to throw myself into a full-on job hunt.
This company is starting the internship around next week. Should I just… show up and see how it is? Or is a bad gut feeling worth listening to even when you don’t have many options?
