Current Shower - 1990's builder grade

AI mock-up (full gut and remodel)

We’re planning to fully gut and redo our shower and just got a quote from a contractor who we’ve been happy with before, but the quote feels quite low.

We were quoted at $6500 (not including the shower door). 

• Does $6,500 sound way too low for this scope?
• Any red flags I should watch for at this price point?

I care about the aesthetics, but I'm MOST worries about it being done correctly (waterproofing/mold prevention). I'd really appreciate a gut check from folks who have recently completed similar projects. Thanks!
