I work at a small agency.

This morning I messaged my team saying I’m unwell (fever, feeling drained, can’t look at screens) and that I’ll rest and work a bit flexibly later.

Instead of atleast saying TC, My manager responded saying they need to give me feedback on something and that one of my EOD goals is to get at least one thing fully approved. Then added that if I join the meeting, it’ll be easier and faster for me to get it done since I’ll understand expectations better. Also mentioned I can choose not to join, but it might make it harder to achieve my goal today.

I ended up agreeing to join the meeting.

Now I’m just sitting here wondering - is this reasonable or just subtle pressure dressed as a “choice”? I get deadlines matter, but if someone’s clearly unwell, shouldn’t that take priority?

In Indian workplaces flexibility sometimes feels one-sided.
