Hey everyone,

I’m in a bit of a weird situation and wanted to see if anyone has gone through something similar.

This year I applied to several master’s programs (its master’s, in english) in Finland and got multiple offers. Due to a misunderstanding, I ended up accepting one offer in the Studyinfo system. As a result, my other offers were automatically cancelled (yeah… I know, painful lesson learned).

Now the thing is, I’m actually not planning to go to that university anymore. I haven’t enrolled, haven’t paid the tuition, and I’m thinking of just skipping this year and applying again in next year.

From what I understand, I’ve now lost my “first-time applicant” status. What I’m worried about is:

  • Does this actually affect my chances in future applications?
  • Do universities in Finland care if you accepted a place but didn’t attend?
  • Has anyone done this before and successfully gotten into a better program the next year?

Would really appreciate any insights or experiences. Thanks!
