Can fare inspectors fine you for PS1 if you’re actually a student?

Can someone explain how the PS1/Post Secondary PRESTO fare works for GO Transit? Last year I got the PS1 fare added to my PRESTO card at Shoppers using just my student ID and government ID. No issues. The card even showed the expiry date as November 2027.

This year I lost my card and went to get PS1 added again on a replacement card, but the Shoppers employee told me I first need a GO Transit student ID before they can add it.

Then I called another Shoppers and they said they could add it without the GO student ID, but I could get fined if a fare inspector stops me. That part makes no sense to me because I actually am a student.

I live in Sauga and mainly use MiWay + GO Train to Union. Has the rule always been that you need the GO student ID? Or are different Shoppers locations just inconsistent with enforcing it?

I’m genuinely confused and hoping someone can explain this.

Why does the 26 bus going toward South Common move so slowly? The drivers go at a pace where it feels like there must be traffic ahead, but there isn’t. The road is clear, and yet we’re crawling the whole time.

On top of that, the bus seems to sit at stops for several minutes even when no one is getting on or off. This happens at multiple stops on the route, not just once in a while.

This is the only route I can take, and it’s been incredibly frustrating. I’ve tried leaving earlier, sometimes a full hour early, and I still end up late for appointments because of how slow the trip is.

Is there something I’m missing here? Is this a scheduling thing, a policy, or just how this route operates?
