I have been on the hunt for a dress watch. I’ve also wanted a watch with gold. The ones in my mind have been a Grand Seiko Omiwatari (obviously not gold) and a two tone Omega Globemaster. I have admired Patek from afar but have never considered one because of the price point. And the ones in my range, didn’t exactly inspire me.

This morning, I happened to check the stock at a local shop I’ve bought from before. They had this Patek: the Travel Time 5134. I loved the look, and the price was within the ballpark of what I could do, so I decided to drive there for sh*T’s and giggles. I had never tried on a Patek and thought it would give me a baseline in case I wanted to consider one in the future.

But I tried it on and immediately loved it. I wasn’t ready to buy, though. I left the store and texted my brother because it had a couple of other watches he has been considering. He said he would head up. I went back to meet him and reconsider the Patek. I threw out a price that i didn’t expect them to accept. They haggled a little, but I stuck to my price and they ultimately accepted it.

The downside? I don’t love the black strap. But I knew a could get a brown one and ran down to the local AD and ordered one.
