Big jumps excercises

Are there any specific excercises someone could practice to get really good at big jumps blindfolded AND sight reading?

I think both are so cool when I watch it’s like I’m seeing a magician (Tom briar when sight reading and Adam Swanson just playing something from memory)

Are there any excercises specific to this someone could passively work on over 10 years to become great at it?

I know obviously just playing for a long time but there are people that have played for 30 years that can’t do it and people that have played for 15 that can so there must be a method to the madness!

I started taking playing piano and taking lessons in November 2025. Since the start I’ve REALLY wanted to be able to play the works of Chopin, rach , lizst etc

The problem is as you know all that stuff is light years away for a beginner 🤣 so everytime I mentioned wanting to learn Claire de lune, or chopin my piano just kinda shrugged it off lol (he’s been teaching for 50 years so he knew I was just nowhere near ready)

I’ve been super militant in following what my teacher says. I only learn music from my RCM books and follow a super strict plan, rather than playing a lot of what I want to play.

It has done absolute wonders for my progress, I’m just flying through the stuff I’m doing.

I completed my level 3 technical (sight, scales, ear etc) practice test with flying colours yesterday and my teacher assigned me a level 6 chopin piece!!!!

I really thought it would be another year before I’d be allowed to play anything like this.. but I’ve been progressing so fast since I only follow my teachers guidance (and practice 3h/day lol) that now I’m finally here!

Bit of a long rant. But I’m so excited to dive into this piece and learn it.

TLDR: follow exactly what your teacher says you’ll be shocked at the progress

Just finished my 2nd public performance yesterday as I’m coming up on 6 months into learning to play piano!

My first was a recital with probably 30 people in the room and this one was quite a small group with an adjudicator. It was super cool to have someone breakdown my pieces, It was like one of those YouTube videos of a piano masterclass… super cool and not what I expected!

For any adults wondering if they should perform, I definitely recommend it! I hadn’t felt this nervous since grade 5 doing public speaking for mass in front of the school.

I’m posting this to encourage adults to put yourself out there in this exciting new hobby and to document my journey :)
