Hi all, this might be an unusual request but I am trying to find the location that this painting depicts. I grew up looking at it always wondering where it was supposed to be. I’m not even entirely sure it’s a real place, but many of the buildings and even the mountains have very distinct and particular details that make it feel like a real town (perhaps an old abandoned mining town?). For some context, I believe it was painted by American artist Roderick Fletcher Mead in 1942 in or near Carlsbad, NM.

This painting has been in my family for years. Both my mother and I grew up with it, always wondering about its origins. We believe it was painted by Roderick Fletcher Mead in 1942 while residing in Carlsbad NM, but other than that, we have no information as to where it was painted or what location it depicts. And as far as I know, this work is completely unknown to the art world thus far. Help us solve a family mystery!
