The Fantastical element
So here's something that I recently thought of: a lot of directors don't like the Batman mythos. What I mean by that is that if you look at the Nolan films, obviously you see the gritty black and white Batman that you would see in most Detective Comics real-world real investigations, or with Matt Reeves, saying there would be no Mr. Freeze, no Poison Ivy, no powered individuals for a more realistic aesthetic—nothing fantastical. The problem is fantastical is what makes Batman who he is. I'm not talking about core character traits; I'm talking about the character as a whole. The entire point of Batman is that he is one man against mutants and monsters and men with magic. He stands toe-to-toe with Amazons, Kryptonians, gods, and all. So I really hope that whatever iteration we see Batman in next, they make it as crazy as they can get away with, but I would like your guys' opinion.
What do you think?
Do you think Batman needs a fantastical element, or do you appreciate the more black-and-white human aspects?
