My hamster moose has been having respiratory problems, we took him to the vet and they prescribed us Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim, Twice a day for 10days. His symptoms when we first took him was just heavier breathing sneezing and clicking almost like he had a simple cold. he was moving and wasn’t lethargic. After getting him examined which i believe they didn’t do a very good job. they almost dropped him like 4 times and the vet who took his weight and listened to him with a stethoscope was super heard of hearing, non the less i explained to the best of my ability what symptoms he was having after doing EXTENSIVE research online as well concluded a respiratory infection to which i said moose needs antibiotics. i looked up this antibiotic online i really couldn’t find a lot of people who also had their baby on this stuff. anyways, it’s been 5days and my baby moose is getting so much worse. he’s lethargic, he’s having a hard time moving and eating so me and my partner feed him his medication followed by a mix of water and his food/fresh fruits and veggies blended and in a syringe every hour or two so he can get his daily nutrients and water intake without causing extreme stress and movement. he’s also recently gotten nose bleeds and the clicking is horrible. and idk guys, i just lost a hammy last week she was an older dwarf, i cried all day. i just know this little guy is coming to an end and idk what to do? stop his medication? it’s stressing him out, and he’s suffering already. and btw hes a bit older almost two years me and my partner think. $200 vet to put him down. i just cant swing that after the $200 vet visit we just went to for his medication, as well as if we take him to the vet anyways there is no way this poor baby will make it the drive out to the vet. hes stressed scared and too weak and im telling yall he wouldn’t make it 😭anyone have any more advice to what we can do? we stopped giving him steam showers(where we put him in a steamy bathroom and sit for 5-10mins) and we took his wheel out so he won’t over do it., i heard fresh thyme works idk what to do at this point other then make him comfortable and brace for the moment he passes :( i also redid his entire enclosure to make it more old man knees hamster friendly, switched bedding to paper bedding so it wouldn’t be so dusty, as well as everyday we have the humidifier going on. not much more i can do in just torn apart thinking about how much pain he’s in and what else i could do for my lil dude :( 💔 side note, once again i just want some comfort here and if you guys know of anything i can do for my moose that ensures the rest of his time here with me is comfortable. it’s heartbreaking but i know there is probably nothing i can do to have him get well.
