Spent 20 mins prompting ChatGPT about my own product category. Never appeared once. Competitor did, 6 times.

That was 4 months ago and honestly it still bothers me.

I had done everything right. Decent domain rating, ranking on page 1 for a few terms, content going out consistently. Things were looking fine on paper. But then one evening I just casually asked Perplexity what tools help with my category and it was just competitors. One after another. I was not there at all.

So I started checking more. Different prompts different AI tools different days. Built a messy spreadsheet to track it. and it was we were invisible in AI search while smaller competitors were getting cited constantly and I had no idea what they were doing differently.

Took me weeks just to understand how AI search even decides who to mention. Few things I figured out the hard way.

How a model actually describes your brand matters just as much as whether it mentions you at all. You can be mentioned and still be losing because the sentiment is off or vague.

Competitors who keep showing up usually have one thing in common. Their content is structured in a way that makes it very easy for AI models to pull from and reference. Clean authoritative and crawlable.

There is also something called an llms.txt file. Think of it like robots.txt but for AI crawlers. Tells models what your site is actually about. Barely anyone is doing this right now which means there is still a window.

I dare you to go open ChatGPT right now and ask it to recommend tools in your space. Just do it. The result will either make you feel good or keep you up tonight.

Spent 20 mins prompting ChatGPT about my own product category. Never appeared once. Competitor did, 6 times.

That was 4 months ago and it kept me up.

Like I would had done everything "right" decent DR, ranking on page 1 for a few terms, content going out regularly. But the when I asked Perplexity "what tools help with my category" it was just... competitors.

I started obsessively checking. Every few days.

Different prompts. Different AI tools. Spreadsheet.
But the data was real we were invisible in AI search while others weren't, and I had zero idea why or how to fix it.

We're a small team. Couldn't afford to keep doing this by hand. So I build it.

It Tracks your brand mentions across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews. Stores the actual AI responses so you can read exactly how you're being described (or not). Shows competitor share of voice. Flags where you're missing but they're not.

Also generates an llms.txt file which is basically tells AI crawlers what your site is actually about. also help you trach which AI models are refering you and those which aren't and many more web metrics.

Nothing fancy. Scratching our own itch.

I Dare you, If you haven't tried that yet, do it right now before reading further. Ask ChatGPT to recommend tools in your space. It's humbling.

Need money for good LLMs, need good LLMs to make money. How do you break the loop?

https://preview.redd.it/gxlovlv9k20h1.png?width=888&format=png&auto=webp&s=1ee9457cbf0615c680b7408100ce8ba27d1eacda

I’m trying to build and launch an AI-based product, but I’ve hit a massive brick wall: API costs. Here is the loop I’m currently stuck in:

  1. I don't have the budget to pay for top-tier LLM APIs (like GPT-4o or Claude 3.5 Sonnet) at scale.
  2. The cheap/free tier models or basic wrapper APIs just aren't good enough. The output quality is too low, which makes the product feel cheap and unusable.
  3. Because the quality isn't there, I can't build a product good enough to actually get paying users and generate the revenue I need to afford the better APIs.

It feels like a total Catch-22. I want to build something people actually want to pay for, but I can't afford the engine to run it.

For those of you who started with literally $0 in the bank:

  • How did you bridge this gap?

Would love to hear how you got past this stage because right now it feels like AI is only a playground for people with venture backing or deep pockets.

Hi r/SaaS Community

i have been thinking of building Agent Buget which would

- An hard dollar limit on any AI agent session. It wraps LLM calls, tool calls, and external API requests with real-time cost tracking and automatic circuit breaking so your agent can never silently burn through your budget. with Zero infrastructure to manage. Works with any LLM provider.

- monitor AI Usage and metrics helps plan budget and keep undercost with growing users

what do you think is this a real concern or problems are you facing ?

I am building my own products and SAAS currently I have built 1 product which has one paying user also shipping more soon.

Now the issue is that I will be graduating in less than a month and I already have an offer for an AI Engineer role. My aim in life is to be able to work on something of my own but don't have the clarity.

So I am confused should I keep building or get some experience if I fail... as job market is brutal if you don't have work experience.

If this resonates with someone tell me your experience & of how I should move forward in life to achie my goal.

Thank you!

Hi,

we have been seeing with Google's AI Overiews and user's shifting from Google search to AI search.

i've been very intersted in this and how is it impacting B2B SAAS.
there is a core shift from Indexing to interpretation of your products and i have seen literally people are getting insane traffic and conversions from optimizing this.

what are your takes and opions on this ?
