I’m about to start working at a mobile phone repair shop in Dallas. I’m new to the industry and trying to get experience learning iPhone/Android repairs.

The shop told me I need to do 1 week unpaid training first, and after that the pay would be $11/hour.

I wanted to ask people already working in mobile repair:

  • Is unpaid training common in this industry?
  • Is $11/hr normal for a beginner in Dallas?
  • How much should a new tech realistically expect?
  • What skills should I focus on learning first so I can move to a better-paying shop later?

I mainly want experience right now, but I also don’t want to get taken advantage of. Any advice would help.
