Donovan Mitchell’s 39 second-half points ties Sleepy Floyd’s record. Who was Sleepy Floyd?

Eric Augustus "Sleepy" Floyd was a 6’3” guard from North Carolina.

In 1977, he led his high school to the North Carolina 4A championship over a team led by James Worthy.

He was a 2-time All-American at Georgetown. Along with Patrick Ewing, he led the Hoyas to the 1982 national championship. He holds the Hoyas’ record for career points: 2,304.

In 1982, he was drafted 13th by the Nets. He played for the Nets, Warriors, Rockets, and Spurs. In a 1991 Rockets win, he scored 40 in 24 minutes.

In Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals, Sleepy Floyd scored 51 total, with 39 in the second half, to help the Warriors stave off a Lakers sweep. He hit 12 shots in a row in the 4th.

Donovan Mitchell had a few chances at the end of the game to pass Sleepy Floyd, but had to settle for a tie.
