Cold messaging on LinkedIn

If you are currently in the medical device or pharma sales field - what would a message from an entry-level candidate seeking a job in med device or pharma sales look like to impress you and prompt a response?

Would asking how you got into the field and being curious/avoiding talking about the job be the way to go? Or would it be better to flat out ask if you get a referral bonus?

Career change advice

I am hoping for some advice regarding my career.

For some background, I have about 2 1/2 years of sales experience (from a part time cold calling job I worked in college), and now about 3 1/2 years of experience in marketing/communications. My major is in public relations and I minored in human development.

It’s been about 4 years since my sales job that I had in college, but with the job market being how it is right now, I’m starting to have major regrets about my major and career choice. I’ve been applying for about a year to get a new communications/marketing job and have had no luck. It also does not help at all that I am trying to move to a different state (have made it to the final round and gotten rejected by a few jobs because I don’t currently live in the state I’m trying to move to and remote jobs have been extremely hard to get interviews with).

At this point I am so exhausted and tired. I also am starting to wonder if I even want to continue with a communications job. It seems that if I do, I will need to be willing to take at least a $25k pay cut.

I have always been interested in sales, specifically pharma sales and med device sales. I have read a few threads on here that have talked about how it can be really challenging to break into these jobs/fields. I am wondering if my small bit of sales experience will still count/help me and if there is really any chance I may be able to get one of those jobs with my background? I feel like I do have some sort of experience with b2b (which I read was important to have for these jobs) with my marketing background, but I also know that’s not the same as sales.

Any advice on where I should go from here would be much appreciated. It sucks feeling like I may need to start from the beginning with my career, but I do hope in the long run I could make more money in sales then what I could make in comms/marketing and also maybe have a better chance of landing a job. I also haven’t looked much into tech sales, but I imagine it may be just as hard to get into as pharm/med.

Thank you in advance!
