A few days ago I posted my dating app project here link: https://www.afrovibe.dating
and honestly… Reddit cooked me 😅
People said:
- it looked too “spreadsheet-like”
- the experience didn’t feel emotional
- the onboarding was too strict
- profiles weren’t visible enough
- the design lacked identity
- the app didn’t yet “feel” like a real dating platform
Instead of getting defensive, I took the feedback seriously and went back to rebuilding almost everything.
Since then I’ve:
- redesigned the entire experience into a more cinematic/mobile-first feel
- rebuilt onboarding and discovery flow
- improved profile visibility and matching
- added realtime chat + video calling
- implemented Google login
- improved moderation/trust systems
- rebuilt the admin system
- optimized mobile responsiveness
- improved safety/reporting flow
- added analytics + engagement systems
- redesigned the emotional atmosphere of the platform
The biggest lesson:
building a dating app is WAY more psychological than technical.
People don’t just want features.
They want trust, warmth, safety, intentionality, and emotional energy.
Still a long way to go, but I’m genuinely proud of the progress.
Would love honest feedback again from people willing to roast it constructively one more time 😄
